The Beltline
The Beltline—Eye-catching design with wide-ranging appeal
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Size: 20,000 sq. ft.
The Beltline is a large, ambitious mixed-use development in an unparalleled central location. We were tasked with bringing to life the vision for the development’s rental building—a beautiful, functional space that could stand the test of time and attract a wide range of renters. Humble materials and a mostly neutral palette of warm whites and natural woods foster a sense of calm, while surprising colour accents and tactile textures throughout inject a sense of playfulness and fun.
With the 500-unit multi-family residential project, Holland Design’s scope included 20,000 sqft of amenities spaces which consisted of a concierge, reception and co-working space on the main floor. The second floor included a gym, wellness areas, community kitchen and dining area, children play area, dog washing/care area, games room, theatre space and lounge area. Also included was the interior design of all the units of residence. We worked within the architectural envelope to create a sense of place that enabled meaningful engagement while still having the flexibility of autonomy. The second-floor amenities spaces were proposed as a series of open spaces that have been delineated by semi-permeable architectural features. The goal was to allow for individual comfort while maintaining connectivity. We focused on creating spaces within the larger space that had nuanced details such as interior wellness spaces (including a tech-free zone) and community gathering spaces. Ultimately, the spaces needed to serve and inspire the user’s lifestyle.
