The Clancey

The Clancey—Creating spaces for the modern city dweller to gather

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

A rental building nestled into downtown Edmonton’s aptly named Ice District, The Clancey was conceived as a hub for the city’s thriving millennial population. We combined design elements common in other historic warehouses in the surrounding neighbourhood with a minimalist, modern aesthetic. The result? A building that feels at once new and also like it has always been a part of the landscape. Standout amenities—like the best rooftop pool in town and an innovative indoor pet play area—exude effortless cool and leave a great first impression.

The multi-family rental project in the heart of the newly developed ICE District in Edmonton called for a design which captured the historic significance of the former warehouse district in which it sits, while appealing to the ever-changing millennial demographic who will live there. Scope included the design of all amenities spaces including lobby, leasing/management offices, gym, coworking space, private dining room and sunset lounge with rooftop patios and a pool. Also in scope was the design detailing of all suites.

The concept of stacked forms and aged materiality, from brick and wood to tile and glass, is woven throughout all levels of the building. The strategic connections between spaces encourages the use and enjoyment of all spaces, and the intimate pockets separated within larger shared spaces allow for all users to find a sense of place.
